As part of the events to commemorate the centenary of the end of WWI, Historic England is looking to list all the war memorials in England on the List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest.   Arreton’s memorial has been deemed worthy of a Grade II listing and the designation can be viewed on the Heritage England website  http://services.historicengland.org.uk/webfiles/GetFiles.aspx?av=4C395853-2210-4F94-BEA9-14E716D8D4B9&cn=E4B67EDA-E2C4-42C3-A0B5-2F881465B7BC

The memorial is described as dignified and an eloquent witness to the tragic impact of world events on the local community and the sacrifice it made in the conflicts of the twentieth century.  St George’s Church is Grade I listed and there are tombs in the nearby graveyard also listed as Grade II.
